Murugan or Karthikeyan is the son of the Hindu god Shiva and Parvati. Lord Shiva released the forehead fire from his face and the gas that carried it was released by Lord Bhagavan into the Saravanapoyika river. Those fires grew into six children with Karthik women. According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Murugan appeared as Arumugam when the mother Parvati embraced the six children together.

He is considered to be the brother of Ganapati, the lord of the moments. Murugan also had a wife named Deivanai, the daughter of Indra, and a wife named Valli, the daughter of Kurathi.

Historians also say that vegetarianism incorporated the worship of the Tamil land deity Zion.

He is also known as the Tamil God. He is the god of the land of Kurinji, the chief of the five senses of love. The worship of Lord Murugan, which was a separate religion called Kaumaram in ancient times, later merged with Hinduism.
