International Yoga Day

International Yoga Day has been celebrated on June 21, 2015, following the launch of the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice originating in India.

The Prime Minister of India, in his 2014 UN speech, recommended June 21.

This is because it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares a special significance in many parts of the world.

Following this initial proposal, the UN adopted a draft resolution entitled “Yoga Day” in 2014. These suggestions were convened by the Indian delegation.
