Pancreatic cancer

Cancer is a life-killing disease with many different types of cancer. Pancreatic cancer is very rare among them.

But, very cruel. Because this disease is revealed in its advanced stage.

So there is a lot of risk involved. This cancer usually affects people above 60-70 years of age.

Dr. Ajith Pai shares with us about this disease.

Pancreatic cancer

pancreas cancer is a condition in which cancer cells form in excess of the pancreatic tissue. Pancreas: Stomach behind stomach; An organ in a cavity. Normally, the pancreas does the job of digesting the fat and protein produced in our body. And it secretes the insulin required by our body and keeps the blood sugar level under control.

Cancer cells can arise in any part of the pancreas. However, the most common part of the pancreas to develop cancer is adenocarcinoma, the duct that carries digestive juices from the pancreas to the digestive system. For example, if 100 people have pancreatic cancer, 25 will have it in the pancreas alone. Does not spread anywhere else. Some are blood vessels, some are attached to the intestines or spread to the lungs.

Very few people develop pancreatic cancer. However, once pancreatic cancer is present, it can quickly spread throughout the body and affect other organs as well.

What are the causes of pancreatic cancer?

Cigarette smoking, aging, chronic pancreatitis, diabetes, heavy alcohol consumption and obesity are risk factors for pancreas cancer. Similarly, it is also a hereditary disease. If someone in the family has had the disease, there is a higher chance of getting it to another person.

Symptoms of Pancreatic Cancer…

Diagnosing pancreas cancer at an early stage is very difficult. Because it has no known symptoms until it spreads to other organs. Symptoms include upper abdominal pain, persistent back discomfort, loss of appetite, weight loss, jaundice, itchy skin, and fatigue. When some people get pancreas cancer, suddenly diabetes also develops.

What are the types of pancreatic cancer?

Pancreas is an endocrine and an exocrine gland. Endocrine glands secrete chemicals directly into the bloodstream, while exocrine glands secrete chemicals through a duct. Depending on the origin of the cancer in the pancreas, there are two types of pancreas cancer, namely: Exocrine pancreas cancer.

Of these, most pancreatic tumors are cancerous. Different types of exocrine pancreas cancer include giant cell carcinoma, adenosquamous carcinoma, and acinar cell carcinoma.

Endocrine pancreatic cancer:

This type of pancreas cancer is not common. Types of endocrine pancreas cancer include somatostatinomas, insulinomas, and glucagonomas.

What are the treatment options for pancreatic cancer?

Depending on the severity of the disease, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery are performed.

Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy involves the use of drugs that kill cancer cells. It is useful when the cancer has spread to other areas.

Radiation therapy: High-energy radiation destroys the cancer cells.

Surgery: Surgery removes the tumor completely. In most cases, surgery is the only permanent solution. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy are for patients who are inoperable.
But, these may not be a permanent solution. Also, currently the latest treatment is iminotherapy. But, everyone cannot use it. Also he said it will be done only for those who need it.
