“Pre-diabetes is the early stage of diabetes. That is, a person’s blood sugar level is slightly higher than normal.

But the blood sugar level is slightly lower than that of type 2 diabetes.

This is what we call pre-diabetes. In detail, for our body to function smoothly, the pancreas in our body secretes the necessary insulin.

It is to distribute sugar to all body cells.

When blood sugar levels rise, insulin secretion decreases.

This eventually reduces the function of the pancreas and creates diabetes.

It depends on one’s lifestyle.

For example, unhealthy eating habits and genetic predisposition are important factors in diabetes.

But the primary cause of pre-diabetes is still unknown.

While diabetes used to mostly affect the elderly and middle-aged people, in the past few years, it has also affected children, adolescents and young adults.

That is, out of a total prevalence rate of 14% of pre-diabetes in the Indian population, about 8.4% is among adolescents and the elderly.

This is due to obesity, genetics and metabolic changes. This is because low physical activity, unhealthy eating habits, high consumption of junk foods, high consumption of sweets and drug abuse are the main causes of persistent pre-diabetes in young people.

Since pre-diabetes is inevitable to turn into diabetes, early detection of pre-diabetes symptoms and proper treatment can help prevent and cure the disease.

But for most people, pre-diabetes remains asymptomatic. That is the big challenge here.

Therefore, the initial symptoms are frequent toilet trips, especially at night; If you notice or suspect pre-diabetes, consult your doctor immediately and get a blood test done, such as fatigue, sudden weight loss, genital itching, cuts and bruises taking longer to heal, blurred vision, feeling very thirsty.

For this, the most common test is to check one’s HbA1c level. This means that one’s average blood glucose (sugar) levels over the past two to three months will be tested.

In this, if pre-diabetes is confirmed, if you change your lifestyle to a healthy one with appropriate treatments, you can get rid of pre-diabetes soon.

At the same time, if it is neglected, the high blood sugar levels of pre-diabetes can damage other organs as well.

One of them is the kidney. When pre-diabetes persists, it can affect kidney function.

This can lead to chronic kidney disease (CKD).

This is due to high blood pressure and cholesterol, cardiovascular diseases, being overweight and sitting for long periods of time.

Both pre-diabetes and kidney disease are more common in the elderly. However, in recent times, in India, young people who do not feel the symptoms of pre-diabetes are also increasingly suffering from kidney damage.

Ways to Get Rid of Pre-Diabetes…

If you have any of the symptoms mentioned above, first check for high blood pressure and diabetes.

Then, it is necessary to find out if there is any kidney damage and consult a urologist if there is any doubt.

It is also necessary to take advice on dialysis or kidney transplant if kidney failure is possible.

In general, 80 million people in the world’s population live with diabetes, according to the International Diabetes Foundation.

This is expected to increase to more than 130 million by 2045, so increasing awareness among people about pre-diabetes will pay off.

Although the early stage of diabetes is reversible, it is important to make healthy lifestyle choices from an early age.

As such, include fiber-rich foods like beans, legumes, whole grains and seasonal fruits and vegetables in the diet.

Also, control excessive consumption of carbohydrates and sweets.

Also, avoid eating too much at one time and eat small meals at regular intervals throughout the day. It keeps you full for a long time.

And avoid late eating and eat food at the right time.

Also, do some form of exercise for 30-40 minutes in daily routine. For example, you can choose anything from skipping, zumba, running etc.
